Membership Benefits

Benefits of Watauga Valley Chapter membership include:

* Participation in Chapter meetings, projects and events.

Subscription to Whistle Stop (published 12 times a year). This is the official publication of the Chapter.
* Subscription to National Railway Bulletin (published six (6) times a year).
* Receive notification of upcoming excursions and special rail-related events.
* NRHS News Extra (News companion to the National Railway Bulletin.
* NRHS Membership Card, which comes with eligibility for a wide variety of discounts, including savings at several of rail attractions.
* The right to attend the National Convention.
* An organized, safe, international network of railroading; an excellent opportunity to meet and socialize with other people who have similar interest in railroads, rail preservation, photography, writing, operations, restoration, and/or history.
* Recognition for continuous membership in the NRHS Membership Awards Program.
* Opportunities to contribute time and energy to local projects or national efforts that protect, educate, preserve, and promote the past, present, and future of railroading.

Joining the Watauga Valley Chapter NRHS

Membership in the Watauga Valley Chapter NRHS is open to all persons interested in every aspect of railroading, railroad history and railroad preservation who are of good character and age twelve (12) years or older. Membership may be on an individual or family basis. With membership comes voting privileges and eligibility to hold elected office at both the local and national level as noted below. Memberships run from January 1 - December 31st. New members joining after September 1 get membership for the current year plus all the next following year at the regular price. Memberships not renewed by March 31 are canceled.

Membership Classifications

Regular Membership. An individual eighteen (18) years or older. A Regular Member is entitled to full voting privileges and is eligible to hold elected local or national office. Dues: $48.00

Family Membership. Extended to anyone eligible for Regular Membership and their spouse and/or all children under the age of eighteen (18) years residing at the same residence. Both the individual and their spouse enjoy the benefits of Regular Membership. Dues: $48.00 for one parent plus $5.00 for each additional family member. For example, husband and wife would be $53.00. Two parents and two children would be $63.00.

Student Membership. A student membership is a discounted annual membership offered to individuals who are under 18 years of age (on January 1). The purpose of the student category is to introduce the NRHS to the many young people who have an interest in one or more aspects of railroading. As a student member, you will receive Volumes I - V of the NRHS Bulletin, the NRHS News, and credit for your membership towards the Membership Awards program. This category of membership has voting rights in the National society. Dues: $16.00

NO RAILROAD INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED FOR MEMBERSHIP. Only the interest in preservation of the history of railroads is required. If you enjoy railroading, membership in the Watauga Valley Chapter NRHS is waiting for you.
